The Aussiedoodle (AKA Aussiepoo or Australian Shepherd/Poodle) is a mixed breed dog, the resulting of breeding an Australian Shepherd with a Poodle. As a cross breed, there are many different ways that breeders can mix the two breeds to alter the genetic make up of the Aussiedoodle. The most common Aussiedoodle generations are F1, F1b, F1bb, F2, F2b, F2bb and F3 where each generation has a different percentage mix of Australian Shepherd to Poodle.
An F1 Aussiedoodle has one poodle parent and one Australian Shepherd parent.
Things to know about F1's... F1's make wonderful, loveable, energetic, great companions. F1's will make any family a fantastic dog but their coats and furnishings are never consistent. An F1 Aussiedoodle is the first generation of the breed created by crossing a purebred Australian Shepherd with either a purebred Toy, Miniature or Standard Poodle. An F1 Aussiedoodle is 50% Australian Shepherd and 50% Poodle.
An F1b Aussiedoodle is created by crossing an F1 Aussiedoodle with a purebred Poodle that is either Toy, Miniature or Standard sized. The resulting dog is 25% Australian Shepherd and 75% Poodle.
F1b Aussiedoodle Coat
Yes, F1b Aussiedoodles are hypoallergenic as they don’t release much dander (dead skin cells) into their immediate environment when they shed. F1b Aussiedoodles are more hypoallergenic than F1 Aussiedoodles as they are cross-backed to a Poodle which is a more hypoallergenic breed than the Australian Shepherd.
F1b Aussiedoodles only shed a minimal amount each year. They will drop a few strands of hair here and there throughout the year and will not go through seasonal shedding. F1b Aussiedoodles like other cross-back generations of the breed shed less than F1 Aussiedoodles as they have a higher percentage of Poodle genes.
The best way to reduce the amount that your dog sheds is to regularly brush them. Slicker brushes are great for dogs with single coats and deshedding tools are great for dogs with double coats.
The “F” in F1bb Aussiedoodle means “filial”, the “1” means first generation and the “bb” means double back-cross. An F1bb Aussiedoodle has been crossed back to a purebred Poodle twice.
An F1bb Aussiedoodle is a cross between an F1b Aussiedoodle (Aussiedoodle x Poodle) and a purebred Poodle which can be toy, miniature or standard sized. They are 12.5% Australian Shepherd and 87.5% Poodle. F1bb Aussiedoodles are not very common.
It can be difficult to predict the size of an F1bb Aussiedoodle as they are a cross between an F1b Aussiedoodle and a Poodle where there is so much size variation. F1bb Aussiedoodles follow a similar weight range to F1 and F1b Aussiedoodles however they are usually even taller and leaner than F1b Aussiedoodles.
The “F” in F2b Aussiedoodle means “filial”, the “2” means second generation and the “b” means back-cross. An F2b Aussiedoodle is the second back-cross generation of the breed. Back-cross means that the dog has been bred back to a purebred Poodle.
An F2b Aussiedoodle is created by crossing an F2 Aussiedoodle with a purebred Poodle that is either Toy, Miniature or Standard sized. The resulting dog is 25% Australian Shepherd and 75% Poodle.
An F2bb Aussiedoodle is a cross between an F2b Aussiedoodle (Aussiedoodle x Poodle) and a purebred Poodle which can be toy, miniature or standard sized. They are 12.5% Australian Shepherd and 87.5% Poodle. F2bb Aussiedoodles pretty rare.
